Pam and I drove to Longwood to see the puppies at about 4 1/2 weeks old. We woke them up upon our arrival so it took them several minutes to shake off their sleepiness. Brittany pups still look like hamsters at this age, not the most extremely cutest looking, but cute enough for me. I'm sure there will be a big difference in 2 weeks. The brood's mother's owner lives in Longwood and he is not going to be taking care of them any more after 6/21. So Shirley, the owner of the puppies dad, will be taking the brood to her place which is about 8 miles east of Silver Springs. In order for us to make our pick, we are going to have to drive up their on the July 4th weekend. We might already have our eye on a couple of boys, but it is just too early to tell. We did not get to see the mother because the longwood guy had to teach that night and just let us in. |

July 5 , 2008 Pam and I drove to Shirley's place in the Ocala National Forest,
several miles north of the town of Ocklawaha and almost to S.R. 40.
I think it took about 15 minutes to pick out the one we liked.
So here are our pictures of Tucker. Yep Tucker's his name.
Shirley had already called him Shark. We are real excited
about him and it's too bad we have to wait another 3 weeks. We
were grateful to be able to see him at this stage. All his
sibilings were there too, but after July 11th, they will start to
dwindle down. Shirley says we have to come up with an AKC name
for him that starts with Credit (the lineage of the breeder). Pam
suggested Credit Triumphant Tucker. Click on any of the thumbnails
below to start the full size slide show. Interesting, the one
dog that we were able to get a good picture of back on June 19th is

July 26 & 27, 2008 On our
return trip from the North Carolina mountains, we had to make a detour
at Ocala to pick up Tucker, it had been 3 weeks since our last
encounter. He was the last of the litter as he spent the night
alone for the first time last night. We had been so excited to
get to him; our anticipation had been building all week. At first
sight, he had grown considerably more, his legs and feet are so big.
I took him out into the yard to let him roam; but after about 5
minutes I led him out the gate toward the car. He did not run off
into the woods or seem anxious to take off. He stayed close by my
feet. We walked out the driveway a couple hundred feet, then down
the country road another 400 feet, Tucker following the whole time.
Pam had to drive around to find us. When I got in the car
I placed him on a box with his blanket for which was placed in my lap
while Pam drove. The box was only about 5 inches tall, an idea
Teresa had that would help define his area. It worked. He was a
"live wire" and mostly mouth for the 40 minutes it took us to get to
aunt Sondra and Bob's Eustis house where Tucker was let out again
without leash and he followed us around as we picked |

limes from the back of the property. Then we stopped at Rosemary and Carl's in Tavares for another break and an opportunity for them to see Tucker. He just melts everyone's heart, his total Brittany handsomeness. On the remaining hour ride home, he fell asleep .
The first night started out a little rough as when we put him in his crate at about 10, he cried, wailed and whimpered for about 5 minutes. Pam, on her way up to bed. suggested we watch a little TV, but that did not stop the noisey sadness. Then I layed next to the crate and within about 5 minutes he fell asleep. Unfortunately, Pam got woke at 3 and 5:30 as he started cries. She let hime out to pee. He had me up just before 7. It was a Sunday, and it was all about Tucker that day. We had visits from Chris and Carla, Julie, Matt and Hailey; even Bear got to come over. Bear was a real sport with Tucker. |

August 5 , 2008 Ten days in my new home and I know my name. I am learning to
"come". I know what "out" means when I am in the cat's room.
Regarding the swimming pool, I have been swimming several times and have learned to come to
the shallow step to get out; and I have jumped in a few times, fallen
in more though. I know what "go pee" means, but I still am
confused about the actual timing of that. I play with my dinner
bowl. I am the sloppiest water drinker and can leave a trail of slobber
6 feet long. I love to play. I am good about not biting
during play, but sometimes forget my owners are not my siblings.
I like to be cuddled. I can almost sleep through the night.
I know when beddie-bye time is. I hate Monday's because no
one is home for 10 hours. I am so lucky to have a |

huge field to
wander around in. I am friendly with all my neighbors, especially
the children. All my experiences with other dogs has been good
and can't wait to have Bear come back and visit me; he is my favorite
dog. I look up to him is my big brother. Next week I go to my first obedience class. |

August 15 , 2008 It is amazing how fast Tucker is growing. Let's see, he
knows these words: "Tucker", "come", "walk", "go pee", "NO", "out"
(like out of the cats room). He has webbed feet just like a
Labrador Retriever and although he has been in the pool a number of
times he seems less inclined to swimming lately. He definitely
knows how to get out of the pool on the steps. He will jump on
the raft when I am floating around. Bear came over last
weekend for a visit. We all learned from this encounter, Bear
needs about 15 minutes to unwind before Tucker can come on the scene.
He does excellent at night now. Lately he has been able to
sleep through up to 6 hours. He has not had an accident in quite
some time, crate or otherwise. Pam and I are pretty vigilant.
I take him out to the retention area to run. It is the only
time I take him off the leash and even then he starts to a-sniffin' and
his ears turn off and I have to go running after him. We, all 3
of us, had our first obedience class. We have some homework to
work on. |
